I wouldn't recommend this as a stand-alone because you do need to know what has happened in some of the previous stories. Not only for the X-men, but also for the larger Marvel universe, and now parts of the story are being pulled for the cinematic universe. This may have gotten mixed reviews when it came out, but I think it's fair to say this is now an iconic storyline. What if mutants were in charge? What if Captain Marvel was the world's most beloved superhero? What if Gwen Stacy & Uncle Ben never died? There's actually a really good what if tale built into House of M that shows what things would be like if our heroes had most of what they wished for out of life. However, there's more to the story than a memorable one-liner. And rightly so, because it changed the Marvel universe and its relationship with the X-men for years to come. I think most people remember this for the famous no more mutants line. After exhausting all of his powers to help her, the X-men and the Avengers are called together by the Professor to decide whether or not Wanda is too dangerous and unstable to be allowed to live.Īnd when they show up on her doorstep the world goes white. The memory of her children and their loss has been too much for her fragile psyche, and not even Xavier can reach her. Unfortunately, she is nowhere near any sort of control, at this point in time. Her ability to rewrite reality would be disconcerting in an individual with perfect control over their powers. So this takes place after Avengers: Disassembled and deals with the fallout after Xavier fails to help Wanda overcome her mental instability.

Unfortunately, she is nowhere near any sort of control, at I wanted to do a reread of this one to kind of bone up on everything having to do with Scarlet Witch.Īnd House of M is the storyline that defines her.
